The esports organization, based in London and Málaga, wins this mixed-gender team tournament ahead of the upcoming VCT Game Changers Championship
Paris. Friday, October 25, 2024. GIANTX secures its first-ever title in the Valorant Spotlight Series 2024, an event held in Paris featuring mixed-gender teams of professional players. GIANTX triumphed 3-1 against G2 Esports, one of the dominant teams in the women's Valorant circuit, becoming the inaugural winner of this tournament.
Riot Games launched this tournament as a precursor to the VCT Game Changers Championship, the World Championship where the best female players of the popular esports title will compete. The GIANTX women's team secured their spot weeks ago. The Valorant Spotlight Series also encourages preseason preparation for players from the male circuit.
This marks the first trophy of the GIANTX era, following the merger of Giants (Málaga) and Excel (London) at the end of 2023. The Valorant Spotlight Series opens a new chapter for an organization that has long championed the inclusion and integration of women in the esports ecosystem.
The tournament stood out for its mixed-gender format, bringing together players from three distinct circuits: the Valorant Champions Tour, the main circuit of this esport; Game Changers, a competition focused on female teams and other underrepresented groups; and the Valorant Challengers leagues. A key requirement was that each match had to feature at least two representatives from the Game Changers circuit.
After dropping to the lower bracket, GIANTX fought its way to the final, defeating popular international organizations like KOI and Karmine Corp along the way, ultimately securing a convincing victory over G2 in the showdown at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. For the title match, the giants fielded Purp0, Westside, Runner, Joliinaa, and Miyori. Despite the presence of a world champion like Jawgemo on the opposing side, GIANTX dominated Lotus and clinched the win on Icebox.
The next challenge for GIANTX is the Women's World Championship, set to take place in Berlin this November. In addition to their presence in Game Changers, GIANTX competes in the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT), which, alongside the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) and the Game Changers circuit, ranks among the top international esports competitions. GIANTX is also represented in the LVP Superliga, Spain's premier League of Legends esports league.
